Give Him A Great Big Kiss with The Daddyo´s - An Interview

***** Interview with The Daddyo´s *****

Q: Hey, tells us who are your influences?
Slabby- Well, to name a few (musically) I’d say…My Bloody Valentine, Vivian Girls, Mika Miko, Singapore Sling and The Warlocks. But I’m also influenced by my many emotions and all the crazy dreams I have.

Hastings-  I guess musically it’d mostly be like Pixies and the Cure and Jesus and Mary chain. I like how they write their music. And otherwise… I don’t know, I guess teenage Drew Barrymore.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Slabby- FUCKKKK… 1.Loveless/My Bloody Valentine 2.The Curse of Singapore Sling/Singapore Sling 3. Moanin’ – Mr Airplane Man 4. We Be XUXA- Mika Miko 5. The Doors- Strange Days and how can I forget Smiley Smile by The Beach Boys and every Vivian girls record!

Hastings- I can’t ever think think of shit for this question and I don’t know why. 1.Darklands - Jesus and Mary chain 2. Strange ways, here we come – The Smiths 3.Three Imaginary Boys- The Cure 4. Bossanova- Pixies 5. ELO’s Greatest Hits – ELO (duh) and the soundtrack to The Wedding Singer is pretty prominent in my life

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Slabby- Sometimes super crazy feeling like after drinking 5 glasses of wine since you’re playing last and then you don’t know how that is going to work out for you…and sometimes super amazing and cool and into it, and then sometimes we’re just in the mood to joke around and talk to everyone on stage.

Hastings- It varies. Usually just awkward and lame hahahaha. I’m not nearly as nervous before shows as I was in the beginning. But I still feel like “omg omg omg” and Kylie and I usually just freak out together at the same time so it’s kind of just funny. It’s usually really fun and surreal while it’s happening. But before and after I feel like a nervous dork.

Q. How do you describe The Daddyo´s sounds?
I guess we’re kinda like grungy dreamy shoegazey and a little poppy. And defiantly 90’s inspired..But our songs really are all different from one another. Some days we are really pissed about something and we write a song about it and it comes out loud and angry. Other times we can feel really great and we’ll be joking around and come up with a silly song or a real poppy song!

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
So far we’ve only recorded with one person, Mike Gilliland. He runs a studio called Auggy Reed in Tulsa, OK.Recording has been super fun and chill for us , but the first time we recorded (It’s a Tough World Out There For A Lonely Girl) we just laughed and laughed and couldn’t stop laughing! It was so funny to us for some reason, to really be in the studio recording, something we never thought we’d do! But we’re a lot better about it now (haha!)

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
La Luz, Colleen Green, Death Valley Girls, Habibi, La Femme, Holy Wave, The Shivas….we listen to a lot of new bands that are super talented!

Q: Which band would you love to make a cover version of?
Slabby-Too many. Nirvana, Shangri-Las, Mika Miko, Black Tambourine, Le Tigre…

Hastings- I always thought it’d be cool to have a b-52’s cover band. And third eye blind lol

Q: What´s the plans for future?
We are going to start recording 2 E.P.’s really soon and then we want to release them together on cassette! Also, later this year we plan on hitting up the West Coast for the first time! but waaay into the future we plan on releasing vinyl after vinyl after vinyl and keep playing until we get super old and die together on the exact same day

Q: Any parting words?
Read your bible, eat your broccoli, brush your teeth, hug your mom, don’t’ be a bitch, do what you want, have a nice day! Xoxoxo retly thanks again
