Almost Died Makes You Think with Getting Married - An Interview

***** Interview with Getting Better *****

Q. When did Getting Married start? Tell us about the history...
A: Getting Married started around January of 2014. Me and Will Saba (drums) are childhood friends and we had been jamming in his garage for years accumulating songs and we finally decided to start a band! Will just texted everyone he knew who played music and Matt Hansink (bass) answered, so he joined the band. Will was in another band called Warmm with Devan Fuentes (lead guitar) and he ended up joining us. Me, Will, and Devan are all in another band called Red Curtain too (redcurtain.bandcamp.com).

Q: Who are your influences?
A: A lot of 90's rock stuff. Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., My bloody valentine, superchunk, weezer etc.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
A: Yuck's self titled from 2011,
Pinkerton by Weezer,
Isn't Anything by mbv,
Korn III: Remember Who You Are by Korn,
From Under the Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy (masterpiece)

Q. How do you feel playing live?
A: playing live is one of the best feelings i've ever experienced. I just feel at home when I'm playing music in front of people. It's extremely satisfying and incredibly fun. I'm usually buzzing for hours after we finish a set. I never want the feeling to end. We're going to try and play a lot more live shows in these next coming months in support of our Burn EP we're working on.

Q. How do you describe Getting Married sounds?
A: It's just fun 90's influenced indie rock! we cover a lot of ground though. There's some slow jams and some fast paced slammers. Not too many effects, there's a lot of distortion.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
A: Will handles all the technicalities of recording. He's really smart with that stuff and works long and hard recording and mixing and making our songs sound just the way we want. On our first EP "Almost Died Makes You Think" I recorded all the instruments except drums, but on a lot of our newer stuff we have Devan and Matt laying down some sick nasty tracks of their own.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
A: There's a cool band I was just listening to today called Pardoner from San Francisco. Casual Friday, Red Curtain, Fugue, all really cool local bands from our area making great music.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
A: Yuck is one of my favorite bands of all time. We may or may not be working on a cover of one of their songs. But don't tell anybody. It's a secret.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: We're going to release a small EP pretty soon here. It's been a while since we've released anything so we're very excited to see what everyone thinks. We're going to play a lot of live shows coming and you can look forward to a full length in the future. maybe even a tour! fingers crossed!

Q: Any parting words?
A: Check us out on gettingmarried.bandcamp.com follow us on instagram @ gettingmarriedband and follow us on facebook to find out when we play and when we release new music! https://www.facebook.com/gettingmarriedband and check out Red Curtain.
