Viiv with She Bit Her Lip - An Interivew

***** Interview with She Bit Her Lip *****

Q. When did She Bit her Lip start, tell us about the history...
It started out with Martin creating a tune and having long-time friends Peeter (who also plays one of the guitars in the band) and Risse sing over it. This ended up being the song called "Eile". We rounded up the lineup with Siim and Taavi by materializing some casual half-jokes on forming a band. Siim's previous band, where he played guitar in, went into a pause from active band-life and this meant that there was a perfect rehearsal place for us to use. We came together at some point in the first part of 2014 and started bringing the first songs into life in a live setting. We were all pretty new to our instruments besides Taavi and also new to playing in a band besides Siim, so it has been a really nice experience and learning curve for us.

Q: Who are your influences?
Each band members actually comes from a pretty different background. We have some fans of soul, disco and rnb, some metal friends, some house and even trance to name a few genres. However what we share is the respect to a good pop song. Of course, the main influences that can perhaps also be derived from our sound come from the shoegaze and dreampop genres, with bands like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
We managed to come up with four. In no particular order:
Jill Scott - "Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1"
Led Zeppelin - "Led Zeppelin I"
Pink Floyd - "The Dark Side of the Moon"
Chic - "C'est Chic"

Q. How do you feel playing live?
By this time we have only had one live which took place at one of the best festivals in Estonia called Schilling: www.schilling.ee. The feeling was 50% nervousness and 50% pure enjoyment.

Q. How do you describe She Bit Her Lip's sound?
It is actually pretty hard to say without being pretentious. We aim to create a sound that has some influence on the listener, that it makes a certain mood-change when you listen to it. What the mood is, most probably depends already on the listener, but we hope there is at least some impact.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
It begins with a home-made idea or demo what then starts to come to life in one of our rehearsal sessions. Some songs will get a lot of modification and some remain pretty much the same, the main idea is that everybody should be more or less happy with the outcome.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Some of them are not that new, but just great bands that come to mind at first thought: Faun Racker, Argo Vals, Dråpe, Pinkshinyultrablast, Lantlôs, Cheatahs, Sea Oleena, Nothing, Whirr, Mumrunner.

Q: Which band would you love to make a cover version of?
As soon as we find something we all agree on, we'll make a cover of it.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
We released our first album called "Viiv" under the label Seksound (https://seksound.bandcamp.com/album/viiv) in October 2015 and now we are planing to continue work on the next one.
