Let It Grow with Actors - An Interview

Jason Corbett comanda o obscuro, envolvente e cinzento Actors.

***** Interview with Actors *****

Q. When did ACTORS start, tell us about the history…
I was demoing material in late 2010/2011 for the band I was playing in at the time.

The songs were darker and more genuine to the aesthetic I was wanting to share. I realized it was time to switch it up and start fresh as ACTORS.

I released the first 7 inch PTL (Post Traumatic Love) / Nightlife on Northern Light Records in 2012. I've been releasing singles and b-sides since then.

Q: Who are your influences?
I've grown up listening to Bowie. I love David Lynch movies.

Those two are big influences in general but others come and go depending on what I'm into at the time.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
This is a tough one. It changes and there's no way to say for sure but…
Depeche Mode - Violator
David Bowie - Scary Monsters
Roxy Music - Avalon
The Clash - London Calling
Joy Division - Substance ( a bit of a cheat as it's a singles compilation )

Q. How do you feel playing live?
It feels great to take a song and bring it to life on stage, to get that immediate interaction with the crowd and the people you're playing with.

Q. How do you describe ACTORS sounds?
…a night drive on a downtown viaduct; anesthetizing and brimming with kinetic energy.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the album?
I own and operate my own studio called Jacknife Sound. I'm there almost every day so when inspiration hits I'm already in the right place.

Sometimes I'll start with a drum beat, sometimes a chord progression, or even a synth sound. It really does happen a little differently each time. Then I'll layer up more ideas until it starts making sense as a whole. Lyrics usually come last even if I have the vocal melody early on. I like to wait and see what the song is about.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I've been listening to Drab Majesty on repeat.
Ultrviolence
Girlfriends and Boyfriends
Red Vienna
Art d'Ecco
Jody Glenham
Owl Skowl
Gang Signs
Gold & Youth

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
Kick in the Eye by Bauhaus would be fun. Life in the Gladhouse by Modern English too!

Q: What are your plans for the future?
There's a new ACTORS track called 'Bury Me' thats coming out next month with more on the way.
I'm writing and rehearsing with a new side project called Leathers and I'm keeping busy producing and mixing other bands.

Q: Any parting words?
